Ghosts of Modern Man Live @ CJLO

The guys from Regina, Saskatchewan’s Ghosts of Modern Man swung by the CJLO studios the afternoon of April 18, 2005 to record a three song session.  Nice guys with huge amps (the bass amp alone was seriously big), we helped them lug their gear up the Loyola staircase since the usual elevator route was blocked off due to exams being held nearby.

For The Mathematics Live @ CJLO

Ottawa post hardcore quintet For the Mathematics spent the afternoon at the CJLO studios July 23, 2005 to record 5 songs, 3 of which were brand spankin’ new.  The session took a long time to record, and the reason was that 2/5 of the band didn’t show up…turns out Clayton and James, who were driving separately (due to their van being out of commission, the guys were traveling in 2 cars), ended up at the right civic number for the station, but on Sherbrooke EAST…not WEST.  For those of you not from Montreal, that’s literal

Engine Down Live @ CJLO

Richmond, VA’s Engine Down dropped by château CJLO July 31, 2004, a Saturday morning, at 10am…no joke.  That’s dedication, people.  Funny story, this was the first sorta promotional thing Lookout! Records ever did with the band (it was a couple months before their new album, their first for Lookout! was to be released). Our pal Erin over at Lookout! (sidenote: she's also part of the awesome Bratmobile) managed to just catch them before they crossed the border into Canada, where their cellphones woulda went out.

controller.controller Live @ CJLO

Toronto’s death disco post punk quintet controller.controller rolled into the CJLO studios on a dark Saturday evening, October 30, 2004, to record 4 songs for Hooked on Sonics.  One of the easiest sessions we ever had to record, they came in, set up, and ran through all four songs in no time, with no extra takes.

Catlow Live @ CJLO

Ex-Dirtmitts frontwoman, Natasha Thirsk brought her new tunes to CJLO September 30, 2005.  Working under the name Catlow and featuring Brent and Kevin of the Salteens backing her up, Natasha was in town for the Boompa Records Pop Montreal showcase, continuing our streak of locking down practically every Boompa band for a CJLO session.

Cadeaux Live @ CJLO

Vancouver spazzy poppy post-punk quintet Cadeaux breezed into the CJLO studios April 22, 2005.  Awesome kids, we taught ‘em some French, discussed New Wave Cola, and marveled at the “Woot!” sign on the back of their van, courtesy of Devon.  Katie also taught us the meaning of “Degrassi Hi-Five”.  Awwww, these kids were swell, we miss ‘em already…
